First Point is the central intake service for homelessness in the Canberra/ACT.

First Point provides one free call once, to quickly and easily connect people to the best available supports. First Point keeps an up-to-the-minute register of vacancies in the ACT and provides crisis assessment and placement.

This service can help by providing information about:

  • housing,
  • advice and support,
  • practical assistance such as where to get meals, showers and clothing.

This service is available for people of all ages.

 Crisis Help Network: Melbourne Homeless Service

An up to date website dedicated to people in crisis.

 Salvation Army St Kilda Crisis Centre

A State-wide, open age service to people in need of support. The Centre provides a crisis response with follow up referrals for assistance with housing and tenancy difficulties, finances and budgeting, substance abuse issues, and mental health problems.

The Centre also provides a 24 hour crisis response for women and children who are escaping family violence and access to family violence outreach services for transitional support.

 Crisis Care

State-wide after hours service.

Available between 4pm–9am weekdays and 24 hours per day on weekends and public holidays.

 Trace-a-Place (TAP)

For young people, 12-25 who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.  Central assessment and referral agency for emergency and supported accommodation through the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP).

For people experiencing a crisis, enabling them to gain access to a network of services including:

  • referral to emergency accommodation;
  • telephone counselling; and
  • information and referral for other material needs.
